Area Service Committee - A committee created to provide common service for NA groups in a specific locale. Composed of GSRs, ASC officers and subcommittee chairpersons. Usually part of a region, to which it send RCMs.

CAR

Conference Agenda Report - A publication that consists of business and issues that will be considered during the biennial WSC meeting.  Released a minimum of one hundred and fifty (150) days prior to the openeing of the conference, with traslated versions released a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) day prior.  The front portion of the CAR, in all the languages in which it is published, is available at no charge on the web at www.na.org.

CAT

Conference Approval Track - A term used to describe items sent to conference participants ninety (90) days prior to the World Service Conference. Included are any proposals for seating of regions, the draft budget and project plans for the upcoming conference cycle, and any material being presented for consideration under the service-material approval process.

Chairperson

Facilitates the ASC and ensures that the ASC keep to the agenda of business.

CLOSED MEETING

NA recovery meetings that are closed to nonaddicts.

CPC

A specialized subunit of the PI subcommitte in some areas, focusing on Cooperation with the Professional Community.

FIPT

Fellowship Intellectual Property Trust (FIPT) A legal trust that serves as custodian for NA's recovery literature and logos trademarks). The document creating the FIPT is called a trust instrument; it explains how NA’s literature and trademarks are  managed and protected for the benefit of the fellowship as a whole. Approved by the fellowship in April 1993.

GLS

Guide to Local Services in Narcotics Anonymous, A (GLS) A service handbook, approved in 1997, intended to serve as a resource for NA groups, areas, regions and their subcommittees in establishing and providing local services.

GSR

Each group elects one group service representative; even those groups hosting more than one recovery meeting elect just one GSR. These GSRs form the foundation of our service structure. GSRs provide constant, active influence over the discussions being carried on within the service structure. They do this by participating in area service committee meetings, attending forums and assemblies at both the area and regional levels, and sometimes joining in the work of an ASC subcommittee. If we are vigilant in choosing stable, qualified leaders at this level of service, the remainder of the structure will almost certainly be sound. From this strong foundation, a service structure can be built that will nourish, inform, and support the groups in the same way that the groups nourish and support the structure.

GWSNA

Guide to World Services in NA, A (GWSNA) A compilation of policy decisions that have been approved by the World Service Conference, including WSC guidelines. The name was changed from A Temporary Working Guide to Our World Service  Structure (TWGWSS) in 2002. TWGSS, its precursor, was first published in 1983 as the temporary successor to the NA Service Manual (a.k.a. The NA Tree), which in turn was first published in 1976.

H&I Hospitals & Institutions

A field of service usually covered by one ASC subcommittee devoted to carrying the NA message primarily to correctional  inmates and treatment facility patients. (Sub-committee)

Helpline

Handles the connection with telephone service and the still suffering addict (Sub-committee)

HIGH UINTA AREA

The High Uinta Area of Narcotics Anonymous basically covers meetings in northeastern Utah, i.e.; Vernal, Roosevelt, etc.

HOME GROUP

The group an NA member calls “home.” Home group membership calls for regular attendance of its recovery meetings,  financial and voluntary service support, and participation in consciencebuilding and decision-making processes.

HRP

Human Resource Panel (HRP) Provides the World Service Conference with a list of qualified candidates for election to the World Board, the Human Resource Panel, and the WSC Cofacilitator positions. Is also responsible to administer the World Pool. Consists of four individuals elected by the WSC.

PI (Public Information)

Public information (PI). A field of service usually covered by one ASC subcommittee devoted to carrying the NA message to government and private agencies, the public media, community leaders, those in the helping professions, and the community-at-large so that addicts seeking recovery will be referred to Narcotics Anonymous. (Sub-committee)

RD

Regional Delegate (RD) Attends the WSC as a voting delegate from an NA region (or equivalent service body). Is responsible to help communicate between the region and world services throughout the conference cycle.

RSC

Regional service committee (RSC). A body that draws together the combined service experience of a number of adjoining areas for those areas’ mutual support. Composed of RCMs, the regional delegate and alternate delegate, and others as needed.

WSO

World Service Office (WSO) The name of the physical location of the primary worldwide service center for NA World Services. The headquarters is located in Chatsworth (Los Angeles), California, USA, with branch facilities in Mississauga, Ontario,  Canada; Brussels, Belgium; and Tehran, Iran. The WSO prints, stocks, and sells NA Fellowship- and conference-approved literature, service handbooks, and other materials. Provides support for new NA groups
